I have recently gained a qualification which adds to my skills as a Reflexologist.
The Limbic brain (Limbic meaning 'lining') detects and protects us from danger. It allows us to laugh and cry, feel warmth and hunger, to feel pain and fear and to control them also. It gives us our motivation and controls all of our physiological processes. It monitors our environment and initiates the responses to the changes that are going on around us. It strives to keep us safe and maintain balance.
The reflexes of the Limbic brain were discovered by a Reflexologist,Hamish Edgar, a mental health nurse for 45 years. He found that a particular area, on the big toe (when worked) had a significant effect on the symptoms of anxiety and the somatic s...

The Limbic brain's function is designed to detect and protect us from danger.
The networks that are part of the Limbic brain constantly monitor what's going on around us and what's happening within our body. Because of the constant state of change our Limbic brain strives to maintain an optimal balance.
We have a wide range of emotional and physiological responses all generated by the Limbic network. It is involved in learning and memory, our experience of pain and it motivates our behaviours
Where this balance is disrupted the Limbic network becomes oversensitive e.g in chronic pain or our alarm system may become hypervigilant..as in chronic fear or anxiety.
Limbic Reflexology aims to help restore the natural balance.
The part of our brain which allows us to laugh and cry, feel pain and fear, enjoy and understand humour and music, feel warmth and cold and numerous other traits is called the Limbic brain (limbic means lining). It is our survival mechanism, whilst all the while striving to maintain homeostasis or balance.
So the Limbic brain is the source of our primitive emotional responses such as fear or anger. However, when this balance is disrupted it may cause emotional disorder and physiological or physical imbalance in the body.
I have always believed that dis-ease started in the mind and if not addressed would manifest in the body as an 'ailment'
I still believe this to be true but I have realised that its a two way communication.
"Today my forest is dark. The trees are sad and all the butterflies have broken wings."
For those who live with that black dog, depression, this season upon us may be one of the hardest times of the year.
Depression...it can also equal depletion.
One of my favourite definitions of depletion is:
The use or consumption of a resource..especially a natural resource..faster than it is replenished
I cannot say this enough times ..you cannot pour from an empty vessel. You cannot hope to give to others if that which you hope to give is not present within you already and you are not constantly re-fuelling that tank
Let your most important gift this season be to yourself. Give yourself love, forgiveness and time
